Apple has issued a new round of updates aimed at fixing multiple vulnerabilities across iOS and macOS platforms, some of which impact features like Bluetooth, FaceTime, Notes, and more. These weaknesses could have been exploited to compromise user data or device integrity. In total, over 30 security issues were addressed in this update. While Apple has not reported any cases of these vulnerabilities being actively exploited, users are strongly advised to apply the updates promptly.
Among all these fixes is an update for the C1 modem, a baseband chip introduced with the iPhone 16e. The vulnerability, referred to as CVE-2025-31214, could allow a threat actor with privileged network access to intercept sensitive mobile communications. Apple has confirmed the issue lies in the way the modem handled network traffic, potentially exposing users to surveillance risks if left unpatched.
Other significant fixes include enhancements to kernel security, where Apple addressed two memory-related vulnerabilities that could have led to unexpected termination or corruption of kernel memory under certain conditions. A vulnerability in the libexpat library, identified as CVE-2024-8176, has also been addressed. This issue affected XML parsing and presented a broader risk because of libexpat’s use in various open-source and enterprise applications.
This update includes security enhancements for iOS and iPadOS users. They have also rolled out patches across its broader ecosystem, including macOS Sequoia, Sonoma, and Ventura, as well as updates for watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS, ensuring all supported platforms receive the necessary protections.
It should be noted that the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) had previously flagged critical vulnerabilities in Apple’s ecosystem. In January 2025, the agency issued a “high severity” advisory warning Apple users about multiple security vulnerabilities affecting various Apple devices and operating systems. Even though that advisory relates to older software versions, the vulnerabilities highlighted emphasize the necessity of keeping devices updated. It is advisable to enable automatic updates and regularly check the device settings for manual patches.
